Testimonies

Tielcey Park only uses Maren Domke for trimming at our facility.  She trims all 19 of our horses - including the stallion, broodmares, foals and youngstock - as well as our competition horses.  We have found Maren to trim our horses not only correctly but sympathetically, ensuring we know what additional work to do between trims, and ensuring our horses' hooves are in the best health possible."Without Maren's support we would not be able to compete barefoot at the levels we do.  I highly recommend her to you"

Maren has trimmed Shylo for over two years now and she has made HUGE
improvements to his hooves.
"She is very good with him and is always friendly, patient and willing to share her extensive
knowledge and handy hints, not only about trimming but all aspects of horses"

In November 2008 Maren arrived to find a flat footed, cracked hooved and rather troubled thoroughbred in our paddock. Actually that’s an understatement. His hooves were already in bad condition and were 6 weeks overdue a trim. Leif was evidently used to rough and impatient handling and he wasn’t having any of it. Maren proceeded slowly but surely to take off all the excess hoof and explain the whole process we had begun in terms of getting the whole horse back from where he was. From nutrition to handling in the space of four hooves I had a direction to start with and so Leif and I began our journey.

12 months later Maren would arrive to be greeted by an excited Leif who would be lifting his hooves before she even had a chance to get her gear sorted out. His greatest compliment was hanging around to fall asleep beside us while we talked after his trim. He had concavity back and would show off his new way of moving at every opportunity. From the head to the tail he was a different horse and his hooves were a huge part of that change, that and Maren’s patience with me and with Leif.

Maren is consistent and professional. Her no nonsense style with both horse and owner is also filled with patience and a genuine desire to see both do well together. What I enjoy is knowing I can ask a question and get a straight answer that is practical and applicable to my situation.

"I can highly recommend her for those wanting to explore barefoot as well as a more holistic and down to earth approach to horse care"

I first met Maren in 2007 when we grazed our horses together at a local equestrian centre. At the time, I had shoes on my typical thoroughbred as I thought that that was just what you did!! However I kept having the same problems with his feet i.e. regular stone bruising, crumbling walls, lost shoes, and a generally unsound unhappy horse. While venting to Maren one day about my problems, she suggested I try going barefoot, and that she was qualified to help me. I discussed it in depth with her, and we decided to give it a go; ultimately, my horse's comfort was paramount and I figured that I could always go back to putting shoes on.  However, since we took the shoes off in 2007, we haven't looked back.
While it did take some time for his flat, soft feet to work as they should, I now have a completely sound, happy horse who moves better than he ever did before.
Although his feet look far from perfect he is happier in them and I can now ride him barefoot over gravel without any difficulty; this used to be hard for him, even when he had shoes on!!
Maren was helpful and generous through the whole process, and was open to all my questions, thoughts, and observations.

Maren also helped me deal with another of my equines, my kaimanawa mare, who sadly became laminitic in March 2009 (too much green grass!). With Maren working alongside my vet, we worked out a recovery plan for my poor mare and through close dietary management and careful hoof trimming, she recovered much faster than anticipated i.e. within weeks and hasn't been even slightly laminitic since, which is great!
I strongly recommend Maren to everyone who wants their horses to be happier and perform better, and I am more than happy to answer any questions anyone may have about her or the journey I have been on with my horses.

Thank-you so much again

We have been using Maren since we brought our pony a year and a half ago.
We have found Maren to be a wealth of knowledge and experience, which she
loves to share and inspire.  I love the concept of the holistic environment
and lifestyle in humans and animals so enjoy the many stimulating
discussions that we can have with Maren.  Our Pony's hooves are looking
great and I appreciate the fact she is in such good hands. Maren has been
also extremely helpful in helping us plan and set up grazing races to help
keep our ponies weight under control, even though the pony tries to twist my
husband around her hoof to get more grass!

Thanks again
